America is in a spiritual crisis

America is in a spiritual crisis.

As the 2016 election draws near—and in the aftermath of that election--will we succumb to the currents of fear, anger and divisiveness that swirl around us and perhaps within us?

Or will we stand up--as individuals and as a nation--for those basic qualities of decency and fairness, integrity, courage and compassion, that are the truth of America and the truth of ourselves?

Thank you for your words of hope for our country. Yes, wouldn’t it be wonderful if we all recognize what really matters here. My prayer is that no matter what the outcome, we can accept the greater good and move forward.

Christopher Foster November 3, 2016 at 11:38 am

Dona, thank you so much for your strong words of agreement and love. I’m happy to connect with you in this way and your prayer is my prayer. God speed.

David Banner November 2, 2016 at 10:20 am

Christopher: That is the salient question and I know how I am answering it! With love and compassion…..

Note my new email, my friend.

Christopher Foster November 3, 2016 at 11:39 am

Absolutely David. Love and compassion. It’s who we truly are, isn’t it. Much love

carol November 2, 2016 at 10:29 am

The expression of both Love and Truth is the only answer…and stance…for me!

Christopher Foster November 3, 2016 at 11:41 am

Thank you so much for writing, Carol. Yes. Love and Truth. Our allies forever.

ANTHONY PALOMBO November 2, 2016 at 11:27 am

A timely call to a return to civility, Chris. Pure and simple civility. I pray that we wake up from our hypnotic trance as a nation and heed your call, the call of life itself. Thank you for putting it out there with your clarion voice.

Christopher Foster November 3, 2016 at 11:44 am

Thank you and bless you Anthony. How good it is to be in agreement on these things. I seem to recall some blessed words, ‘When two or three are in agreement in my name, it shall be done of my father in heaven.’ It’s good to be sharing this journey with you.

Love your words Chris, I have also been giving thought to the Spiritual Crisis. No doubt there will be those Happy with the outcome of the election and those Unhappy. What’s new !!

There seems to be an increase in unrest in our world, apparently more killings, hit and runs, inhuman acts etc. Yet I believe that there are those who are in fact standing and living in the TRUTH… integrity, compassion, gratitude, forgiveness and such…and the positive spirit of Source, God, Energy, then becomes that Force that is behind all that appears on the surface. In my opinion resolution is taking place though who knows what the outcome will be… collapse, annihilation?? or a NEW generation alive and well…… Ken.

Christopher Foster November 3, 2016 at 12:09 pm

Strong, beautiful, and powerful words Ken. Thank you so much for your sharing. Though we cannot always see it, resolution is taking place, just as you say. I have to think of the importance of trust in times like these. Thank God there is something that is trustworthy: Truth, just as you say; our own eternal, unconquerable spirit. Much love and take care Ken.

Chris, I find that my reactions over this “election” (yes, I do think it was rigged in key spots probably by Russia) are all over the place emotionally but mostly disbelief and sadness. Pondering those feelings, I feel “shattered” — like a million tiny fragments of glass that have then been trampled underfoot. It turns out that in the America I thought I lived in, Hate Trumped Love. I never before believed that, despite seeing the pockets of fascism and evangelical fervor to impose their beliefs on others.

I am trying to regain some equilibrium after this shocking reality. And what I am left with is that many if not most people of faith already believe we are in The End Times. I have long been one of them. Signs and Symbols and Such. So if “this is how the world ends, not with a bang but a whimper” and that whimper is the last sound after the next nuclear war, The Fire Next Time, then so be it. (Turning to poetry, from Maya Angelou to Wm B Yeats “Second Coming”.)

It is a bit hard to encompass that Trump might be sent to cleanse the world at the end of the Third Sacred School. But who or what else would do it, really? Anyway I’m sleep deprived to probably still a bit muddled in thinking. But turning to old friends like you and others in EDL Alums always helps ground me and stabilize me and perhaps even turn my face away from the world and Put First Things First again.

All things which really benefit man, whether materially or spiritually, and do no harm, are good and should be encouraged, they are particles of progress. If a man comes to you and says has secret knowledge of benefit to man, then hear him fairly. Bear with him patiently, for if he is sincere, even though you derive no benefit and are told nothing new, his sincerity needs encouragement.

Christopher Foster November 3, 2016 at 2:57 pm

Thank you Lorne. I appreciate your thoughts. All the very best.

Not only American is in a spiritual crisis. The whole mankind is in a spiritual crisis. There are few enlightened beings and we must support them to bring forth love and integrity in living.

For my family we started eating vegan seven years ago for health reasons. Little we realize that we have saved so many animals, birds and fishes and reduced our carbon emissions significantly. Mankind faces extinction from climate change, we must raise our spiritual value and make the right choice with our forks.

Saw this documentary films few days ago. May be you would like to watch it.

Christopher Foster November 3, 2016 at 3:16 pm

Thank you for your comment Ivan. You’re absolutely right, it’s not just America that is in crisis, our entire race is. I admire the simple but meaningful steps you and your family have taken and continue to take in your own lives to to set a right example in the face of the challenges we are facing. Thanks also for the link to the movie, I look forward to seeing this.
Love and blessings to you and your family,

Elke November 2, 2016 at 1:15 pm

Hello, it’s been a while 😉
We in South Africa are going through a turbulent time ourselves. It’s AWESOME! To be honest, there seldom is a quiet time here, dormant does not necessarily mean quiet in Africa…
Isn’t it exciting though? People’s emotions are flung right out there! You are forced to sit up, take notice, make real, serious decisions! None of this sitting on the couch and watching yet another reality show… this IS reality! This is LIFE! This is REAL suspense! And what is most awesome is to see that in SA the colour of your skin, your gender, your age, your religious conviction, EVERYTHING becomes insignificant when you realise that you do have a voice and you are not the only one who is “gatvol” of fat cat gravy train riders…
Feel the LIFE!
Much love, right back at ya!

Christopher Foster November 3, 2016 at 3:46 pm

Elke, you are one of life’s originals. It’s a real pleasure to hear from you again. I have to tell you that reading your comment is kind of like taking a dive into that big booming ocean that lines our shores.
Oh my goodness yes. It’s not just words, is it, or watching TV, or whatever, and of course it never was.

We are here to face whatever comes to us (the small, ordinary moments as well as the big, challenging, earth-moving ones) with every ounce of courage, grace, wonder and honesty we can muster, aren’t we–to “feel the Life,” just as you say.

I sometimes think it’s a bit like being on a white-water river. I find for myself the real challenge or the real opportunity is to meet the intensity of my outer life with an increasing intensity of my “inner life.” To realize with a lot of thankfulness that no matter how much “white water” comes my way, the opportunity that life gives me, the ‘deal’ that life offers me, is to open more deeply to the stillness and joy that is the core of our true nature or our true character. My love to you Elke. Give my love to South Africa too.

Sir : The Russians gave the world Stalin…… the Germans……Hitler…… The Italian Mussolini………Are you the American people going to give us Trump ? ?

Christopher Foster November 5, 2016 at 10:28 am

Thank you for your comment. It’s a very touching comment. I too trust the American people will make the right decision in this truly epic confrontation. Bear in mind I’m a Brit living in US as a ‘legal resident’ or something like that. But I love America. Speaking for myself, I would be honored to see this country elect its first woman president.

Michel Vaillancourt November 2, 2016 at 7:24 pm

Dear Christopher,
We know that nothing happens by chance and that there is always a design that is behind all events. Trust that the right thing will shine through as you give unconditional love to this situation. Nothing can go wrong with a loving and blessing attitude.
One with You,

Christopher Foster November 5, 2016 at 10:30 am

Michel, thank you so much for your very positive and uplifting comment. It is a blessing to me personally and I’m sure will be a blessing to others.

Nadeja November 2, 2016 at 7:58 pm

Stand up, stand up, stand up. Standing up!
In Love,

Christopher Foster November 5, 2016 at 10:31 am

Hi Nadeja. Yes indeed. Stand up. Stand up. Stand up. It is demanded of all of us in these days.

Maureen Moeller November 3, 2016 at 10:19 pm

Christopher, you are such an inspiration. Your courage to speak the truth during difficult times is admirable.

You, who chose to live in America and make it your home, now find it’s a country filled with confusion, anxiousness and division. Please know many of us are as surprised as you with the current tide. I am nearly 60 and do not recognize our nation; turbulence, absence of civility, disregard for the poor and disenfranchised as well as bowing to the almighty dollar. All I value seems to be crumbling as our society turns away from one another in hatred and fear. Families, churches and schools are impacted and divided by the violent rhetoric spewed daily. Children watch and hear potential national leaders use impulsive and ominous threats toward another. We are all on shaky ground.

Upon closer introspect, could this be societal growing pains toward a more enlightened nation/world? Are we called to arms or to love? Will we come together as one whole rather than continued separateness? Do we need voices such as yours to remind us of our unconquerable spirit? I say yes to all! Love will prevail, Christopher. Peace and love to you and JoAnn.

Maureen Moeller

Christopher Foster November 5, 2016 at 11:00 am

God bless you Maureen and thank you for your very moving and uplifting comment. It is a blessing to me personally, but I am sure your words and the spirit of them will carry a blessing for many others as well. Yes. America is obviously facing severe challenges and divisions. But just as you say, love will prevail. That is the real take-away here. Love will prevail. This statement reaches beyond America, of course. It’s true for all peoples in all lands.

There’s a beautiful quote in the Bible that goes something like this. “Love never faileth.” Let us trust, and indeed know, deep in our hearts, that as we play our part, the truth of these words will prove itself out, in ways perhaps at the moment we can’t even imagine. Love and blessings to you, Maureen. Stay strong.

Christopher Foster November 13, 2016 at 4:26 pm

Hi Suzanne,

Thank you for your comments. I think it was very brave of you to share your concerns in this way. A difficult, confusing, and in some ways frightening time indeed.

I think the essential instruction is “Fear not.” We simply don’t know, at this point, what Trump will do or how he will handle his new responsibility. He may rise to the occasion and find a middle way, temper some of his more extreme proposals and rhetoric. There is an Angel in each of us.

I don’t know too much about the idea of the ‘End Times.’ Personally, I wouldn’t give it too much attention, except that I am absolutely sure about one thing: How we each behave, and think, and act, as an individual, in these coming days is absolutely critical to what may or may not occur. If you and I and others choose to be true to the truth of ourselves in the highest possible sense, and express the qualities of compassion and courage that are the core qualities of our own true nature we will ensure that the most creative resolution possible occurs.

More than that, we will experience directly the peace that is God’s gift to each one of us, whether we think of ourselves as religious or not, no matter what our color or culture or status in life may be. I’ll close with these words I have loved for a long time: “In the world, but not of it.” Much love to you, Suzanne. Fear not.
