Announcing a giveaway at Goodreads

I'm happy to announce that I am giving away ten signed copies of my new book, The Upside of Cancer: How a Feared Illness Led Me to Courage, Wisdom and Inner Peace, as part of a giveway at Goodreads. The giveway begins at midnight Wednesday, October 14 and ends on Wednesday, October 28. This offer is open to all Goodreads members in the United States.

Every now and again I receive an endorsement for my book which truly lifts my heart. Along with my announcement about the giveaway, I'd like to share with you the following testimonial which I received recently from a respected member of the medical community:

“Everything changed for Christopher Foster when he began to see cancer not as an enemy, but as a teacher.  When fear rose up in him, he instinctively sought refuge in times of stillness and meditation in which he made a remarkable discovery. In the presence of the Eternal there is no fear, and his fear was turned into joy.  He now lives his life on the ancient scripture that is still true: ‘Perfect love casts out all fear.’”-- Harold G. Koenig, M.D., Professor of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences and Associate Professor of Medicine, Duke University Medical Center

Also Adjunct Professor, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and Adjunct Professor, School of Public Health, Ningxia Medical University, Yinchuan, PR China.

As always, I'd love to hear any thoughts you may have on the above--or anything else!  I send blessings and love to you as you face the challenges that are before you.

Thank you for your interest in and support for my blog.

While thinking about the phrase, “Perfect love…”, it occurred to me that love, as I express it, isn’t always perfect. But the love within, that is perfect, heals my imperfect expression as it flows through.
The challenging aspect of “Perfect love casts out fear” has to do with my thoughts. It is so easy to allow a thought to make an assumption, build a case, and try to blame. It is love that says “STOP! WAIT! Is that true or is it Memorex?” What a relief to know it’s often Memorex. Then love shows me how to erase the tapes and to know what is real.

Elizabeth, thank you for your very interesting and thoughtful comment. It is kind of a paradox isn’t it. We’ve all been conditioned in various ways in our lives, we all have our ‘foibles,’ and our expression isn’t always a clear reflection of that perfect love you’re speaking about. But what an inspiring realization you point to. The love within, the truth at our core, is perfect, just as you say. And it really only takes a moment to re-connect with it.
By the way, if you’re a Goodreads member, PLEASE consider stopping by at Goodreads and giving my book a boost in some way during the giveaway. To be honest, my book isn’t selling yet, I’m hoping the giveaway will help give it some momentum. My love to you Elizabeth and I hope all goes very well.

Hi Christopher,
Not sure about “Goodreads,” but I reads pretty good, so if you’d like to send me a free copy of your new book, I would be grateful. Plus, thanks for your on-going guidance.
Sincerely,
JB
P.S. Nearly everyone on my mother’s side has succumbed to cancer, so I have a feeling I need to study up, although I may be taking after my father’s lineage that is long-lived but a tad eccentric.

June, many thanks for your comment. I’m sorry but right now I don’t have any extra copies to spare, they are all reserved for the giveaway. But you’ve plenty of time to go to the Goodreads website and apply for your free copy there. Thank you for sharing about your parents. I send you a lot of blessing and love. Be strong and trust life.

Hi Dear Friend, Chris,
It has been awhile since I have checked in with you. I hope you are continuing to do well.

The testimonial from Dr. Koenig (I hope I spelled that correctly) was very uplifting, and I am sure a subtle lesson for those reading it, who have battled fear of not only cancer but other diseases and life’s trials. He confirmed what you have shared with so many of us; the benefit to mind, body and spirit when we become ‘still’.

You continue to be such a source of strength for so many. God bless you and may His face continue to shine upon you.
Sending love your way,
Sandi O

Chris, I just finished reading your little book “The Upside of Cancer” and, as always, I marvel at the simplicity of your writing. No complex sentences or thoughts to digest and absorb. Just the simple, uncomplicated expression in writing of who you are and how you experience life in all of its diversity and sudden turns. This book would bring a greatly needed blessing to anyone undergoing treatment for cancer. I’ve order 3 copies from Amazon to give away. Thank you for sharing your journey in life with us all. I am blessed by your friendship and by the love that flows through your words. God bless and keep you.
Your forever friend, Tony
