A brave young raven journeys from 9/11 to the digital world

I was so excited when I woke up on the morning of 9/11. I looked forward to sending out the first promotional copies of an animal fable I had written about a brave young raven named Joshua and his heroic journey to restore the true honor of ravens spoken of in ancient prophesies.

So off I went to the post office in Loveland, Colorado, where JoAnn and I lived at that time, and mailed out a bunch of books. Soon after I got home the telephone rang. It was my son, Durwin, calling from Vancouver, British Columbia.

“Are you guys watching the TV?" my son asks. We switch on the TV, and of course we see live coverage of 9/11, we see the world changing before our eyes.

A lot of things have happened in all our lives since that fateful day. My book, The Raven Who Spoke with God, received some wonderful reviews, and went on to be published in 11 foreign language editions besides English.

I discovered a kindred spirit

Eventually the book ran out of steam and I thought it had ended its natural life when a remarkable event occurred. You could call it synchronicity, I guess.

I felt a nudge to knock on the door of a neighbor who I hadn't met yet and say hello. Wow. It turned out she is also a writer and kindred spirit with an interesting specialty -- she helps other writers publish their books in Kindle format at Amazon.

So thanks to Heather, founder of Watermark Book Publishing, Joshua -- a brave, sensitive, lovable character who faces difficulties and challenges remarkably like those each one of us faces -- is flying again. The book has been published now in a Kindle edition and what I want to let you know is this.

You can get my book for free on April 6,7 and 8

Right now my book's regular price is $7.99. But as a way to thank you for your wonderful interest and support of my blog, I've worked out a way you can get it for free later this week if you wish. I'll be publishing a special post early Friday that will include a link to a free download at Amazon. The free download will be good for three days, April 6,7 and 8. Just click on the link and the book will be yours at no cost. Please note that this book makes a wonderful gift for all ages. And like all Kindle books, it can be read on various devices besides Kindle such as your computer, iPad, or cell phone. (Free app downloads for any device are available at Amazon.com). Regular price of the book is $7.99.

I hope you enjoy my allegorical tale about the unconquerable spirit at the core of our existence -- that as we listen to its nudges in our heart will bring us safely through the challenges of our lives and reveal to us the unique gift that is ours to give.

Thank you for your help in spreading the word about Joshua. I've received dozens of cherished reviews of this book over the years, but here are two of my favorites.

“It soars… this is no ordinary bird, and no ordinary book." -- Sunday Oklahoman.

“Having a Raven ally is powerful medicine indeed. Christopher Foster has paid a wonderful tribute to our feathered friends." -- Angeles Arrien, PhD, author, The Four-Fold Way.

This is a link to my author's page at Amazon in case you'd like to browse more about me. Gosh. Here I am, 80 in May, and life gets more exciting and wonderful and challenging every day. Tragic things happen in this world. But in the midst of our troubles, disappointments and challenges, our own unconquerable spirit is untouched by any of it.

If you have any thoughts you'd like to share please write. And if you enjoyed this post, please consider sharing it with a friend.
